US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT JANUARY 8, 2024
January 8, 2024   Dave Lewis

JANUARY STARTS OFF, DARE WE SAY, KIND OF OK

The holidays are over, and it looks like USPS is shaking off the peak-season blues and, pardon the expression, Delivering for America.   At least they did last week.  We saw some of the best performance we’ve seen in weeks, after a decent showing last week.  We saw a similar pattern last year after the holidays, so maybe we have cause to be optimistic.

The Central Area still seems to be getting their feet under them after the holidays.  The other areas were all over 90% on-time for First-Class letters.  First-Class flats are running about average lately – and their average has not been good.

Marketing Mail (including Nonprofit) continued its consistent excellent performance.

P.S.  We have had a few folks ask if commingling and private transport times are included in these stats. Only Postal transportation is – we measure from the point the mail is entered into the Postal Service to delivery.  So, if you are trucking your mail to Santa Ana for induction there – Santa Ana is where our clock starts.  We don’t know how long it took your truck to get there.
